An outstanding collection of
Turkey „From Ottoman Empire to foreign destinations“ (Covering the period of 1875-1923) will be one of the highlights of our April sale.
This exhibition collection of International Grand Prix calibre comprises 767 different covers and cards to nearly every place on earth. Letters originating from smaller Holy Land post offices (such as Nablus or Nazareth), from Mekka, Bagdad or Mount Athos are as well included as scarce destinations of such remote corners like Hobart/Tasmania, Wellington/New Zealand, Iceland or the Caribbean Islands. The collection includes registered and censored mail, postage due usages, dead letter PO markings, hotel post etc. Beautifully written up on album pages this collection never had been exhibited on a national or international stamp show and consequently offers opportunities in that direction to the eventual buyer. Our starting price of € 60.000.- moreover give much leeway for an investor who - like us - expects further integration of Turkey to a larger Europe.
Giving a short preview over approximately 1200 lots of Europe and overseas countries we would like to mention a valuable group of items of
Poland such as the scarce 10 Kr POCZTA POLSKA overprint stamp of 1919 tied to large part of an insured mail cover (€ 6000.-) or not often seen items of Polish local issues of the 1916-1918 period from „Czenstochau“ to „Sosnowice“.
Austria and Switzerland are strong with approximately 100 lots of each aerea.
South America comes with nice groups of postal history items of Brazil and Peru and some scarcer MNH sets of the 1930ies.
British, French and Italian Colonies are well represented and there is also a good range of China, especially Peoples`Republic, on offer.
Of course, the
German section is strong as usual covering all fields from German States to modern „Bundesrepublik“.
A highly interesting group of pre-philatelic items of the 17th and 18th century is worth to be mentioned among which letters of the 7-years war between Prussia and Saxony (1756-1763) and of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) are found.
German Reich, German Colonies, Plebiscites and Occupation aereas of the two world wars comprise approximately 500+ lots with many rarities at moderate reserves.
1650 collections will be auctioned the second day. Starting with whole estates offered intact (some of them come in 150+ albums!) the sale offers opportunities with a wealth of country collections, specialised aerea accumulations, dealers`stocks, bulk lots and some lots of coins.
In total the sale comprises exactly 4302 lots with an overall estimate exceeding 1 mio euros.
The print version of the catalogue will be mailed out by the 25th, the online version being available already by the 20th of March.
